I officially now have a six year old. As his birthday fell onto a week day, we celebrate his birthday at the weekend. He has a few friends coming over. The theme of his party will be Super Mario. This is also the reason why you will notice half of his presents are Super Mario related. He is really into the whole Mario world now.
I will have a seperate post about Matthew’s themed Super Mario birthday coming up in the next few days, too. In the mean time these are the presents he received from us parents. I don’t know about you but at the age of six I found it awful hard to get stuff for him. There is nothing in particular that he is playing with at the minute and so I picked out things I knew he would be into or get into.
1. Junior Oral B Electric Toothbrush
Oral hygiene is very important to me when it comes to my children. Simply because I didn’t look after my teeth properly years ago and I didn’t pay the dentist a yearly visit. This meant I had to get a few fillings done and everybody knows who is in the same boat how expensive this ca be. It’s very military in our house brushing the teeth properly. The dentists recommend electric toothbrushes these days because they just clean the teeth better. I brush Matthew’s teeth myself every morning and evening to make sure it’s done properly. The purpose of this toothbrush is to get him to brush them himself or get into the habit of it at least. Boots €28 (on offer at the moment)
2. Mario Kart Power Up Racer
I wasn’t quite sure how this toy works in the first place but because he likes Mario so much at the moment I bought one to trial it. It’s actually pretty cool. You put batteries in the bottom bit and put the kart on it. You push it down and it recharges. It has little magnets underneath the kart. The kart goes around the house for ages and it’s super fast. This is one of Matthew’s favourite new toys. Smyths €11.99
3. Mario Plush
Matthew was never into teddies when he was a toddler. However as of late he likes to cuddle one every now and again. He has his strawberry teddy which I picked up in Lidl ages ago and it goes to bed with him every night. He loves strawberries itself. Now Mario joins him in bed, too. Smyths €8.99 (on sale)
4. Speedy Racer Track
This is something that hubby picked out for Matthew. He loves cars and everything construction, typical boy. Hubby reckoned he would love something like this. I was tempted to buy the Mario Kart one which was slightly pricey but I decided to buy the cheap one first. If it breaks and he still loves playing with it, we can always pick up the Mario one. Smyths €14.99
5. Mario Jigsaw
When I saw this in Gamestop the other day, I thought it was the question box as a 3D puzzle. However it turns out this is a 3D lookalike puzzle with all the different characters of Mario World. We haven’t got the chance to make it yet but I am sure we will do at the weekend or at least in the next few days. It’s 108 pieces which is perfect for his age. Gamestop, can’t remember the price
6. Lego City Set
You can’t have a birthday without not receiving a new Lego set. Before I bought this, Matthew and me went into Smyths and he told which Lego sets he likes. As mentioned before, he loves anything constructions and so this tractor was a great new addition to his other Lego. He finished building this within an hour yesterday and absolutely loves it. The fact the claw is able to pick up the trunk is his favourite part of it. Smyths €19.99
7. Mario Backpack Keychain
Now that Matthew is back to school, I thought it would be cool to add a new keychain to his school bag. He currently has a batman bag but I ordered him a proper school bag from Smiggle just because this was one is just too light and it’s a pain to put his drink in. He said to me he was hoping to get Toad. Maybe next time when he is entitled to a treat.
8. Funny Bunny Board Game
I picked up this board game by pure chance in Smyths as it was reduced. I am trying to get the kids into more board games. As a child I loved playing board games with my friends and family. Even at birthday parties it was something we loved doing. We have managed to play with once and the kids loved it so far. Smyths €8
