We are just about 3 weeks away from Chloe turning 1. One year of age. Madness. Around this time last year I was struggling to walk with a big bump and pain in my back. I actually had to take an extra week off work which left me at going on maternity leave earlier.
For Matthew’s birthday party the theme was Mickey Mouse. I want to do something different for Chloe’s birthday. She only turns one once on her life after all. So I went onto my favourite social platform Pinterest to look for some ideas.
I recently read a lot about the cake smash. Something I have never thought of doing before but it looks like great fun even though it is going to be messy. But can you imagine the amount of cute photos I can take. Especially now that I have a proper tripod for my camera. I can’t actually wait now for the day to come up.
As you can see I am planning to go for the gold and pink theme. I am generally not a big fan of pink. Girls should be able to wear any colour. But for her birthday I thought I am going completely pink mad. I think this scene looks beautiful. Whether I will nail it like in the picture above is other question. You know the memes everyone posts on Facebook the way it looks and the way you actually “nailed it”. I am hoping to get it kind of decent looking though. The only thing I am really missing is some sort of nice background. So to any bloggers out there who are good with photography, let me know how I can create a great looking background but cheap.
So far I bought her a headband, cake topper and birthday t-shirt from Etsy. This leaves me buying her skirt (tutu maybe), a highchair banner and a banner for the wall. If you know any good shops on Etsy or Instagram with cheap and fast postage let me know.
The table setting I was thinking something like the above photo. A block of letters in the middle displaying “ONE”. There will be some finger foods and the main cake of course and some pink and gold balloons floating around.
Are you planning your little ones birthday party at the moment? Do yo have a theme?
Ahhhhh so lovely!!! Its Noah’s 1st birthday in March soi’ve just started my planning, it’s so much fun!
I did a cake smash for Tyne’s 1st birthday and just used a big plain white sheet as a back drop as it also meant he could sit on it and then I could just shove it straight in the wash afterwards so there was no mess on the floor! Maybe you could do that with a pink sheet?!
Not exactly cheap postage but party pieces website has some cute highchair decoration for first birthdays

I think it only shifted over from the US in the last few years.
The gold and pink theme is gorgeous, I love it. I don’t think having a cake smash was a thing when my children were babies, or if it was I never heard of it! I’ve seen some great photos from cake smash shoots, can’t wait to see how you get on.
That looks fab – If I had my time again with a little one I would so do this!
Brilliant ideas, Freddie is one in March. Everyone says it and I used to get so annoyed by the phrase but it goes sooooo quick!!
Such an exciting time! Pinterest is so great for ideas like this – i have a baby birthday board gong already and she’s only 8months haha. I saw those tassle bannder things in tkmaxx a few weeks ago – they might still have some.
My nephews had a cake smash and oh my it was so messy but oh so much fun x
