It’s been a while since I have taken to the blog. I have neglected it a bit this year to be honest. Since we are on lockdown, I definitely have less time to sit down and write a post. If I am not working, I am minding the kids and when the kids are in bed, the least thing I want to do is sit in front of the PC. I am sure everyone is in the same boat.
There were many blog posts I wanted to publish since March but I didn’t want to forget about our Easter break. How did you all cope? Did you do anything fun? We really tried to make the best of it. Lockdown is slightly more restricted in Ireland than it is in the UK. If you follow me on Instagram (janineslittleworld), you will get daily updates of our lives during this pandemic. Instagram has turned into a blog as such.
We don’t want to forget, even with schools being closed, homework is still being done, however over the two weeks Easter holiday, I gave Matthew a break and we tried to have as much fun as we could. There is plenty of time to do school related things any other day in my opinion. They need a break from learning after all.
We started off the Easter break with a bit of baking. Hubby took to online shopping and purchased a baking outfit for Chloe. She was delighted with herself. Over a course of two weeks we baked cookies, banana bread and cupcakes. And there is still no stopping us. For this week I am planning to make a fruit cake.
Luckily the weather is glorious. It could be much worse if it was raining for weeks. We are having plenty of ice cream, probably too much. But let’s be real, since being at home we all end up eating way too much. I am trying to be a bit better now but it is hard. The sweets and the chocolate keeps us going.
Unfortunately all garden centres have been closed for a long time now so gardening isn’t as easy. I did clean up the garden a bit, got rid of all the weeds and ordered some plants and apple tree online. It will take some time to arrive as everyone else is doing these orders too which creates a back log. Once it arrives, I cannot wait to plant our own apple tree. I sneaked in some redcurrants too. It’s lovely to get the kids involved in gardening and show them how vegetables and fruit grow.
Of course there are days where cooking has gone to my head and we cheated and ordered a take away. One of the days we had a local pizza truck coming to our estate. It was a life safer. I mean who doesn’t like pizza? I could have pizza every day but that’s not good for the figure, is it?
Easter Sunday turned out to be a bit wet one. Nevertheless we took the Easter Egg Hunt outside. Wellie boots on and there was no problem looking for the eggs. It was a great outcome and the kids were delighted what they found. There may have been chocolate for breakfast for several days.
For breakfast we had an Easter brunch. This consisted of Easter nests made out of yeast, puff pastry chocolate bunnies and cinnamon bunnies. I might have made a little bit too much of it. We were stuffed and there was no food until dinner time without question.
Later on the day we played a bit of Easter Bingo which I picked up from Tesco. I may mention that Easter was supposed to be celebrated in the sun in Lanzarote but due to the circumstances the world is in right now, our holiday has been cancelled, like it was for so many others. Traveling might never be the same again. I had many other trips planned for this year and I am itching to get out as soon as all restrictions have been lifted. I think we all have cabin fever at the moment, never mind the kids.
How did you celebrate Easter this year?
