Good morning to you all. A dull day in Ireland today but at least it’s not cold and raining. Again our upcoming weekend is full of fun again. Have you got anything nice planned?
A day in a parenting blogger’s life continues. This time I have Lyndsey joining me who blogs at Me, Him, the Dog and a Baby.
First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.
I’m Lyndsey, I’m 31 and I live in Middle of Nowhere, Norfolk! I live with my husband John and 18 month old daughter Erin.
How many times were you woken last night?
Zero! Erin is really good now and generally sleeps through the night. However, if she does wake up or make noise I barely hear her. I know how terrible that sounds. John has pretty much always done anything during the night so if he’s there, I tend to shut off a bit.
Do you co-sleep?
We used to and I really miss it. Erin has been in her own room all night now for about 4 or 5 months. Sometimes if she wakes up at 4am we get her back in with us but it’s not very often now.
What time do you normally wake up?
I’m so lucky that I generally get up at 7am when John wakes me up. Erin tends to wake up anywhere from 5am but John gets up with her. He’s an early bird and I am not! He then wakes me up about 6:50, which is 10 minutes before he leaves for work.
How much average sleep do you get a night?
Even though I get to sleep in a bit I tend to go to bed pretty late. I never go to bed before 11pm and it is more like midnight most nights. I guess I get about 6 hours of good sleep every night.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Honestly, I need to pee as soon as I get up! That is not a glamorous answer whatsoever but I can’t function or do anything else before that.
Tell me about your typical morning routine.
After John goes to work Erin and I tend to watch cartoons for a little bit. Paw Patrol is her favourite so we tend not to do anything until that has been on Milkshake! People may be judgy for us watching cartoons but I don’t care. Erin has learned how to say some words from us watching TV.
After Paw Patrol we tend to either read for a bit, have a snack and get dressed and play with some toys. On Monday we have swimming lessons so we’re out of the house by 9:30.
When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.
I wish I could say I cooked more often, especially something from scratch. Most evenings we don’t get to eat until about 8pm after putting Erin to bed etc. I do try to cook a mini roast a couple of times a week though.
What’s on the menu for lunch?
Erin sleeps through lunch quite a lot of the time. She usually naps from 11/11:30 until about 2/2:30. I usually get a sandwich for my lunch but Erin doesn’t really have it at the moment.
What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?
As Monday is a swimming day we tend not to do much else. Now that it is the summer we spend a lot of time out in the garden, enjoying the sun, letting the rabbits run wild and playing with toys.
Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?
We always put Erin to bed before John and I have dinner. I can’t wait until she can stay up a bit later and for us to all eat together.
What do you do after dinner?
I blog on an evening as I don’t get chance to do much during the day. I start by replying to emails, catching up on social media and then making sure I’m all scheduled for the next day. John and I will watch something on TV while I’m working though.
What is your bedtime routine?
John will feed the rabbits and sort out their hutches while I finish off whatever I’m working on. Sometimes if we haven’t done it earlier, he will also do the washing up while I go up to bed and use up my lives on Candy Crush!
Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?
I do try to look at and reply to emails if I can during the day. Erin has just started napping on her own, rather than on me, so I now get a lot more free time during the day. I use this time to at least get something blogging related done but I save most of my work for the evening once she is in bed.
Thanks for sharing a day in your life with us, Lyndsey. It’s always nice to start them young getting used to the water.
