Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all. It’s a public bank holiday in Ireland today which means long weekend. It’s nice to have one day less to work and one more day to spend with the kids. We are not going to the parade. I thought there was parade in Naas but there is none and I am not dragging the kids into Dublin city just for that. We might do something else.
Today it’s Sarah from digital motherhood.
First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.
I’m Sarah, a 30-something mum to a 5 year old girl who I call ‘Little H’ on my blog. We live in Poole, Dorset and I work in Digital Marketing.
How many times were you woken last night?
None! At nearly 6 Little H sleeps from 7:30ish to 6:30 the next morning. I’m very smug about it now, but she didn’t sleep through the night until she was 14 months so I think we’re owed a good sleeper!
Do you co-sleep?
No, we were very strict when our daughter was a baby as we like our own space! Luckily this worked well and she’s never slept in our bed.
What time do you normally wake up?
On a weekday my alarm goes off at 6:30am. On a weekend I’d sleep until lunchtime given half the chance, but usually get woken by a little person around 7.
How much average sleep do you get a night?
I usually have so much work and blogging to do that I go to bed around midnight, so about 6 hours sleep. I’m a total bedhead though and really need about 8 hours.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Moan about having to get up!
Tell me about your typical morning routine.
Straighten my hair and get dressed while my husband is still sleeping and Little H is playing on her tablet. Then between the husband and I we get Little H dressed, teeth brushed and hair done. The husband takes her to breakfast club on his way to work, I do my make-up and finish getting ready after they’ve gone, then head off to work myself. It’s a very hectic 90 minutes!
When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.
We only have time for family dinners at the weekend. During the week Little H has her dinner and we eat later – it’s just too much of a rush to get it all done after work otherwise. We share the cooking so at the weekend it’s whoever fancies doing it! Family favourites that Little H will eat with complaints are spaghetti bolognese, chilli con carne, sweet & sour chicken and fajitas.
What’s on the menu for lunch?
Little H has school dinners so she has a better diet than us! I don’t have a lunchbreak at work due to my part time hours so it’s usually a quick sandwich or salad at my desk.
What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?
After school on a Weds Little H has gymnastics and on Friday it’s swimming. If we have no plans afterschool and are in at the weekend we do things like Lego, colouring, sticking and Play Doh – as much as possible to keep her away from her tablet!
Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?
As above in the week Little H eats her dinner first we eat once she’s gone to bed.
What do you do after dinner?
After Little H’s dinner she watches a bit of TV, plays on her tablet, or plays with her toys.
What is your bedtime routine?
Bath & hair wash on certain nights, PJs on, teeth brushed, milk and bedtime story.
Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?
My blogging is all done in the evening once Little H is in bed. Sometimes I will also draft posts on my phone when I’m sat waiting for her to finish gymnastics or swimming!
Thank you for sharing a day in your life Sarah. I am very jealous that you have the bed all for yourself. Hopefully we will get there one day long, too.
