Welcome back to “A day in a parenting blogger’s life”. We are just a few hours away from entering the weekend. I hope you have something nice planned. I actually have my friend coming over with her boyfriend over the weekend and we are planning to go to a farm… if the weather allows us.
Featuring today is Laura who blogs at The Breastest News. I actually met her first time at the Blog On conference in May. She is a really nice girl. Have a read what a day in her life is like.
First of all, tell me a bit about yourself.
I’m Laura, a twenty something Mummy of two who currently works part time and loves guzzling tea! The kids and I live with Daddy in Fife, Scotland and have two lovely family dogs plus a leopard gecko called Diego.
How many times were you woken last night?
I’m happy to say I wasn’t woken up once last night however my toddler did wake me up at 5am this morning!
Do you co-sleep?
I don’t co-sleep with my two and have never really considered it as they both quite like their own beds and their own space however when they’re feeling poorly they come into my bed for cuddles.
What time do you normally wake up?
Generally 7am on non-workings days and 5.45am on working days as I start at 7.30am. Now that it’s so light in the summer months my toddler has been waking up at 5am even with black out blinds and curtains.
How much average sleep do you get a night?
I try and be really good and go for a solid 7/8hrs per night. Otherwise I’d be knackered the next day.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Check my phone to see what time it is and possibly snooze the alarm ha ha. Then it’s normally straight into the shower to get ready for the day.
Tell me about your typical morning routine.
On week days is pretty much get up, get a shower, get the kids washed and dressed, head downstairs with the kids for breakfast, quick bit of TV and iPad time for the kids and I’ll put a washing on before heading out the door for the school run.
When and how often do you prepare the family dinners? Give us a few examples what you would cook.
I tend to cook from scratch every night unless I’m short on time and stick a pizza and some chips on the oven. Things we like to eat as a family include mince and tatties, homemade curry, lasagne with garlic bread and a tasty fish pie. All quite simple and easy meals. I’m no chef!
What’s on the menu for lunch?
My son gets his lunch at school and goes for the school dinners and not a packed lunch as he’s a hungry boy. For us at home (or when I’m working) it’s normally homemade soup, some kind of pasta dish or a cheese toastie.
What activities have you got planned for the day for the kids?
Depending on what day it is we’ll go to our local toddler group, visit Granny, drop off at the childminders, meet up with friends, soft play or the park or sometimes a good chill out at home.
Do you generally eat dinner together as a family or get the kids fed first?
I try my hardest to make sure everyone eats as a family and this usually happens but on the odd occasion it doesn’t no one makes a fuss. The kids get fed and us adults grab something later.
What do you do after dinner?
After dinner it’s the whole bath and bedtime routine for us unless it’s the weekend and the kids get to stay up longer then. After the kids are in bed I normally spend an hour on blog work before chilling in front of the TV.
What is your bedtime routine?
For the kids it’s a good old warm bath, clean pjs and a story before sleepy times. I’m still breastfeeding my toddler so she gets a little feed just before bed.
Most importantly, when and where do you normally blog in those 24 hours? Do you have a schedule?
I tend to blog when the kids go to sleep for an hour or so depending on what I need to get done. I can’t do it when I’m working (unless during lunch) and I can’t on my days off as I have the toddler and she keeps me so busy.
Thanks Laura. You make cooking sound so easy. 🙂

Sounds like a busy lifestyle you have. I think I would pass out lol
I work from home. I have two main jobs and do a lot of freelancing around those jobs. So I have no regularity to my waking schedule whatsoever.
Some days I am up until 2am, so I wake at 10am or so. Others I am deadbeat by 10pm and struggle to finish whatever TV or movie I am watching, then crawl into bed. On rare occasion, I have a night shoot that runs sunset until sundown. So I’m in bed by 8am.
And sometimes I just wake earlier than I set my alarm, my brain eager to work on some project or do some writing. Other days (days off), I get ten hours of sleep.
Between working for a table top game company to run their convention presence, doing film production, and getting gigs on other people’s film projects or being an event photographer, there is no rhyme or reason to my schedule.
