I don’t know about you but in the last week I totally got into watching Christmas movies. Once the kids are in bed I am sitting down with my blanket, some biscuits and a nice cup of tea and turn on Netflix and browse the Christmas movie section. I admit some of them aren’t great but most of them are.
It’s nearly December now so I think it’s just right to get into the Christmas spirit with some movies. Tomorrow we are set to watch the Late Late Toy Show. This is generally when the madness and excitement of Christmas will start in Ireland. If you love a good Christmas movie, then you will like the ones I picked out for you to the run up to Christmas. At the bottom of this post, you are able to download a printable checklist of all the ones I named in this post. Just to be sure that you don’t miss any.
The Christmas Chronicles
The story of sister and brother, Kate and Teddy Pierce, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. (source imdb) I’ve watched it the other evening and I thought it was one of the best Christmas movies in a long time. It has definitely got a great rating online, too. So if you haven’t seen it already, put it on your list now.
The Princess Switch
One week before Christmas, Margaret, the gorgeous Duchess of Montenaro, switches places with Stacy, a “commoner” from Chicago, who looks exactly like her. With the assistance of a magical Santa’s helper, Margaret falls in love with Stacy’s handsome co-worker, while Stacy falls in love with Margaret’s fiance, the dashing Prince. (source Netflix) As somebody said to me “a movie for the heart”. A very girly movie but lovely to watch.
Deck the Halls
Two neighbors have it out after one of them decorates his house for the holidays so brightly that it can be seen from space. (source imdb) Comparable to the movie “National Lampoons – Christmas Vacation” this movie is a great comedy movie in a Christmas themed way.
Arthur Christmas
Santa’s clumsy son Arthur sets out on a mission with St. Nick’s father to give out a present they misplaced to a young girl in less than 2 hours. (source imdb) Something for the whole family. A movie to sit down to on a cold or wet weekend with the fire on and some sweeties and popcorn for the kids.
Jack Frost
A father who can’t keep his promises, dies in a car accident. One year later, he returns as a snowman, who has the final chance to put things right with his son, before he is gone forever. (source imdb) Another adorable Christmas movie.
Santa Claws
Tommy, who is unable to celebrate Christmas because his mom says Santa isn’t real, leaves his kittens out for Santa to take back to the North Pole, but after a major allergic reaction Santa can’t fly the sleigh or deliver presents anymore, so the kittens have to deliver the rest of the presents to all the boys and girls before sunrise. (source imdb) If you love cats like we do, then this movie is right one for you.
The Man who invented Christmas
The journey that led to Charles Dickens’ creation of “A Christmas Carol,” a timeless tale that would redefine Christmas. (source imdb) I haven’t seen this movie yet so can’t comment too much on it but based on the trailer it’s really good. If you’ve seen “A Christmas Carol” it would be easier to understand.
The Holiday Calendar
A struggling but talented photographer inherits an antique holiday advent calendar, the contents of which seem to predict the future. Will this magical calendar lead her to love this holiday season? (source imdb)
