Chloe absolutely adores dolls and anything that involves role play. It started off with a doll she got from her godfather two Christmases ago. Since then her doll collection has grown and she is up to four to five baby dolls now. The only thing missing in her collection was a Barbie doll.
When Mattel got in touch to try out their new Barbie doll which comes with newborn pups, Chloe was delighted. When I was a child myself, I had lots of Barbies and in fact two Kens. Barbie was very popular back then. I am not sure if it is still as popular nowadays because there are so many different dolls now. I had the Barbie house, the camper van, the car with the open roof, the whole lot. I loved playing with it. I would have loved to pass this onto her but there is only so much I could move across from Germany.
Barbie Newborn Pups comes with a Barbie, a mummy dog, three puppies, a bed, a bowl, a blanket and a bottle for the puppies to feed after.
The Barbie cannot stand freely, however she can bend her knees to knee beside the dog and help it. Simply pull back the dogs front legs to put the puppies into it. To pop them out, put the dog on the ground and push down. Simple enough. But here comes the fun part… Add a bit of cold water to the paw shaped bowl. Dip the blanket into the cold water and rub the puppy’s eyes. They will open their eyes. If you touch the back of the puppy, this will also reveal whether the puppies is a boy or a girl.
Vice versa if you dip the cloth into warm water, the puppies will close their eyes. Chloe was amazing and even my five year old took some liking to it. To see the toy in action, watch the video below.
Barbie Newborn Pups is available in any toy store such as Smyths for €29.99.
Disclaimer: I was sent this product for the purpose of this review. As always this is 100% my own opinion.
This looks like a great set. My little girl is four and has just started to get into barbie too. I think I will have to add this to her birthday list. My eldest was barbie crazy and still has a barbie house and huge plane in the loft xx
