This time I am here to tell you guys what Dermot and me experienced in Germany nearly 2 weeks ago.
Wednesday 11th May – We had an early flight that morning. When I say early I mean early! Flight left at around 7am!
We arrived in Frankfurt airport at around 10am German time and had to get onto ICE train to get to Nuremburg.
Delayed by 90 minutes we finally arrived in Nuremburg station at around 3.30pm. We took a taxi then to get to our hotel. That day it was roasting. I did have light clothes with me but they could have been lighter to be honest.
Our hotel room ( well more like the bathroom) was a bit small so I moved us to a different room which was also a lot cooler.
After chilling out for a bit we got a taxi to Erlangen with Dermot’s brother Aubrey. There we had BBQ and smashed porcelain. German tradition. lol
After a nice evening outside due to the lovely weather ( 27 degrees!!!) we left around 11pm I think. We have been up since very early so needed our sleep.
Thursday 12th May – This day was a chill-out-day. We went into the city to have a look around. Everyone was only about to arrive between now and Friday.
In the evening we went to the O’Sheas’s pub which is an Irish pub of course. I love the fact the beer is so cheap in Germany. That is what I really miss. Prices in Ireland should be like that!
Friday 13th May – We had lovely breakfast like every morning. ( yum yum ) and then at 11am it was planned to go on a city tour.
Everyone might know that I am not really interested in history but this tour was actually quite nice and interesting.

After we all went for lunch. I had yummy rolled beef with dumplings and red cabbage. It was heaven!
Later on we went to a cafe to sit down and chill out in the lovely sun and get some tan. As it was really warm this day as well.
In the evening time Dermot’s brother booked a long table in a restaurant called “Krakauer Haus” to welcome everyone as by now everyone had arrived.
Good German beer!
It was time to go then because the next was the Big Day for Dermot’s brother Aubrey – The wedding!
Saturday 14th May – The day started with an amazing breakfast again. Then we slowly had to get ready.
My Outfit
Dermot’s Outfit!
So we drove to the church in a taxi. Not a chance I would have walked down in the shoes and in that dress! lol When we arrived we were pretty much the first ones but it filled quite quickly. The bride and the groom arrived at 1pm on the button. Mass started and the usual stuff that happens at a wedding. The “I do” fell of course!
Groom & Bride
We all went to the next event… where the real party was! We all got on the bus and went to Erlangen.
In Erlangen we had tea and cake. In the evening time it got a bit chilly and it was about to start raining. We took our seats inside.
A few speeches were done. One by Dermot’s younger brother… in German. I checked the mistakes he made first!
After the starter was served which was salad and soup.
Along with the lovely food there was also entertainment which included groom & bride games and dancing. I even went for a little dance. Doesn’t happen very often. lol
At a wedding like this you should be staying until the end really but to be honest I couldn’t have stood in those shoes much longer. haha I think we left like 0.30am. Not used to going out late anymore. I need to get into the rhythm again.
Sunday 15th May – Everyone was pretty much dieing! Some people left that already. Went for lunch that day, had yummy ice cream, went to the park and to the pub (the Irish one of course! lol ) in the evening. So it was a nice relaxing day.
Monday 16th May – This was the day we flew back home. The flight wasn’t until the evening though. We checked out by 12pm. Aubrey suggested to take a taxi to his apartment so we can see where he lives before we go. Very impressed by the apartment! I love the fact that they have a cat as well and getting a second one. A house without a cat is no home. lol
2pm Melanie and Aubrey drove us to the main train station along with one of his other friends who was on the same flight as us.
Plane left Frankfurt airport at 8pm and we were in bed in Sligo by 1am as far as I can remember.
All in all I loved the trip. It is a good break away from work for once.
